Monsoon rains to knock Marathwada's doors again

Marathwada has received good Monsoon rains during the Southwest Monsoon season.

This subdivision of Maharashtra which has been reeling under drought conditions for the last three years, displayed a good performed this Monsoon. During the months of June and July, good rains were recorded over the region.

So much so that the region observed surplus Monsoon rains. However, rain gods seemed to have turned their backs against Marathwada. The region has not received good Monsoon rains. However, tides are about to take a fortunate turn and good Monsoon rains are about to make a comeback over the region.

The well-marked low which lies over Northwest Jharkhand and adjoining areas is likely to move towards the west. Thus, scattered light rains may occur over some parts of Marathwada during the next 24 to 48 hours. A fresh Monsoon system is expected to form in the west-central region of Bay of Bengal.

Under its influence, a north south trough is likely to develop running from Madhya Pradesh to Interior Karnataka across interior parts of Maharashtra. With this, Marathwada is expected to receive good Monsoon rains between August 27 and 29. These rains will be beneficial for crops.

At present, Marathwada is witnessing a rainfall surplus of 4 percent making it fall under the normal rains category. More rains will only help in increasing the rain surplus figures.
