As reiterated by Skymet Weather, Monsoon rains have started making appearance over northern plains. Beginning with Punjab, fresh Monsoon surge has given fairly widespread rains over several parts of the state during the last 24 hours.
Few parts of Haryana have also recorded scattered moderate rainfall over few places.
Chandigarh has recorded 53 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, followed by Amritsar 48 mm, Ambala 37 mm, Ludhiana 31 mm, and Patiala 8 mm.
The rain belt will now start expanding and will also start covering more parts of Haryana and even Delhi-NCR.
According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed the Monsoon trough which has now moved southwards. The western arm of the trough is presently moving across the northern plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh.
Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is also prevailing over the central parts of Madhya Pradesh. A trough is also extending between these two systems.
All these systems will continue to prevail over the region, which is likely to intensify both the rain activity and spread over Punjab and Haryana. We can expect mainly light to moderate showers, with few places recording isolated rains also.
