Monsoon rains to increase over Maharashtra soon

Weather of Maharashtra has gone dry in the last few days however occasional light rain has occurred over Vidarbha and southern parts of Madhya Maharashtra. Places like Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur received good rains during this period.

During last 24 hours, north Madhya Maharashtra has received scattered light to moderate rains including parts of Marathwada. Aurangabad received 9 mm of rainfall, Akola 3 mm, Dahanu 4 mm, Mahabaleshwar 3 mm and Nasik & Pune received light rain.

But now we expect that rain intensity will gradually increase over Vidarbha for next 24-48 hours. Vidarbha and parts of Marathwada may receive light to moderate rains at many places.

North Madhya Maharashtra will also receive scattered showers. Places like Aurangabad, Jalgaon, Nashik and Malegaon may receive light rain. But the intensity and spread will increase over many parts of Maharashtra from September 11 onwards.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is over Southwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Gujarat region. Due to its impact, light rain has occurred over North Madhya Maharashtra.

Another cyclonic circulation has developed over West Central Bay of Bengal which may intensify into a low-pressure area and move in northwest direction. This weather system will increase rain activity over Vidarbha and Marathwada.

Konkan & Goa is at present rainfall surplus by 11%, whereas Madhya Maharashtra is rainfall surplus by 6%. Unfortunately, the regions like Marathwada and Vidarbha that were witnessing a surplus have now seen the percentage dip marginally. At present, Marathwada stands at the rainfall below than the normal by 4% and Vidarbha has received rainfall which is 2% below than the normal.
