July 19, 2016 3:33 PM |

Kolkata RainKolkata rains have displayed a good performance during the month of July.  So much so that the city has received double digit rains on several occasions. Since the first day of July, there has only been two days when the City of Joy has not received any rain.

While Kolkata received a good 20 mm of rain on July 16, rains have reduced and only light rainfall has been received for the past three days. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Kolkata recorded 2 mm of rainfall.

However, good news awaits the residents of Kolkata as Monsoon rains are about to pick up pace over the City of Joy during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Currently, the axis of the Monsoon trough has been running in close proximity of Kolkata. Also, a north-south trough is expected to extend from the cyclonic circulation over the Bihar region which will further enhance the rainfall activity.

So far in the month of July, Kolkata has recorded 156 mm of rainfall against its monthly average of a good 399.9 mm of rainfall. Last year in July, the City of Joy had received rainfall amounting to a whopping 674.3 mm in July.
