Southwest Monsoon had made a delayed arrival over Kolkata. Since then, the city has been observing moderate to heavy rain and thundershower activities. Particularly during the last week, the city of joy witnessed some very good spells.
Since the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Midnapore recorded 19 mm of rainfall, Diamond Harbor 10 mm, Kolkata 7 mm and Bankura 3 mm.
As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is seen persisting over Northeast Bihar. A trough is also seen extending from this system up to North Coastal Odisha across Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Another trough is seen extending from North Rajasthan up to East Assam across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Due to these systems, rainfall activities are likely to increase significantly over these areas. Moderate to heavy showers are expected to occur at some places over Gangetic West Bengal. While heavy showers are also possible over Malda and Murshidabad.
Meanwhile, moderate rains are likely to continue over Kolkata for the next 48 hours and reduce thereafter. Chances of lightning strikes are also possible over the region during the next 24 hours.
With on and off rains over the city, the temperature is likely to subside, paving way for pleasant weather conditions.
