Monsoon rains to continue over Kerala, more rains in offing

Southwest Monsoon had made onset over Kerala on May 30 and the state has been receiving good rains since then. In fact, these ongoing rains will be responsible for the further advancement of Monsoon in Kerala during the next 48 hours.

According to Skymet Weathermen, Monsoon is likely to remain active for another few days over Kerala and the intensity of rainfall is likely to increase and continue over the region during the next 48 hours. Until June 6, Kerala has received 25% surplus rainfall. These weather activities are a result of the timely and good start of Monsoon 2017 over Kerala.

In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Kochi recorded 45 mm of rainfall, Kozhikode 28 mm, Kannur 25 mm, Alappuzha 17 mm, Panalur 11 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 5 mm, Kodaikanal 2 mm and Kariput 2 mm.

This state had been battling severe drought, but now these rains will bring much needed relief to parched areas of Kerala and other adjoining areas. Therefore, these good Monsoon showers will continue to remain active over the region for the next coming few days.
