Southwest Monsoon arrived over the Indian mainland before the time this year. In contrast with its normal onset date of June 1, Monsoon made its onset on May 28 which was already predicted by Skymet Weather.
Kerala, being the first state to rejoice Monsoon rains, welcomed Southwest Monsoon with wide arms open that gave the state a couple of very good spells. However, rains dipped slightly over Kerala on around June 1 and 2, but soon it picked up the pace again and started lashing the state with good rains around June 3.
Karnataka too followed the similar track and Monsoon marked its arrival over the state before the stipulated time that triggered some good rainy days over the state.
However, despite good rains, both coastal parts of Kerala and Karnataka have remained rain deficient so far. At present, Kerala is rain deficient by 20%, meanwhile, coastal Karnataka is 40% rainfall deficient.
