After prolonged dry spell over Gujarat, the state has been receiving light to moderate rain since last 48 hours. These rains can be attributed to a low-pressure area which is now over South Rajasthan. This low-pressure area originated in Northwest Bay of Bengal and has travelled to Rajasthan.
This low-pressure area had intensified into a deep depression over Madhya Pradesh and weakened into a low-pressure area again.
The light to moderate rain is expected to continue over Gujarat for next 24-48 hours. Few places in the state may get to see heavy spells as well.
A weather system as a well-marked low-pressure area is seen at Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand. This weather system will move across Madhya Pradesh and reach up to Southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat.
So we expect the rainy spell to continue over many parts of Gujarat and few heavy spells to occur over the state around August 25.
At present, Gujarat and Saurashtra & Kutch subdivisions are rain deficient by 27% & 20% respectively. These numbers are expected to decrease to a great extent due to this spell of rains which is expected to last for 2-3 days.
