Generally during Southwest Monsoon, the Northeastern states receive exceptional rainfall. But this year, till now, East and Northeast India is one of the most rain deficient region. In fact, Assam and Meghalaya is rain deficient by 32%.
In last few days, active Monsoon conditions were witnessed over many parts of Assam. Many areas have also received moderate with isolated heavy showers. However, these rains are not good enough to decrease the rainfall deficiency of the region.
As per Skymet Weather, southerly winds from Bay of Bengal are expected to reach over northeastern states including Assam. This would in turn increase the moisture over the region and hence, good showers are likely over Assam for at least next 24 hours.
Moreover, a low-pressure area which is persisting over South Odisha and adjoining North Coastal Andhra Pradesh is expected to move in a westerly direction. Due to this movement of the system, the moisture incursion over Northeast India including Assam will reduce. After that the rain intensity will once again go down. However, scattered light rains with one or two moderate spell will continue over the region.
