Monsoon has made an timely onset on the parts of northeastern states and we still expect good rains to continue over many parts of Northeast India for the next 48 hours. In the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy showers had lashed Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh.

The cumulative rainfall for Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura (NMMT) on the first day of the Monsoon was accumulated at 44.3 mm of rain against the normal rainfall of 11.2 mm. While, Arunachal Pradesh received 20.5 mm rain against the normal of 10.8 mm. Whereas, Assam and Meghalaya witnessed lesser amount of rain, which was 9.8 mm against the normal of 13 mm.

However, these rains are likely to subside thereafter. After 48 hours, a trough is expected to form over Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh leading to change in wind directions over the northeastern states. Due to the change in wind direction, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal which is increasing moisture will get cut off and hence, rains will decrease significantly over the entire Northeast India.

As per Skymet, the decrease in the amount of rainfall will be effective in the next 48 hours over the Northeastern states. But scattered light to moderate rains will continue.
