Monsoon rains to continue in Jabalpur, Umaria, Sidhi and Satna

August 13, 2018 6:17 PM | Skymet Weather Team

In a span of 24 hours, light Monsoon rain was witnessed in parts of Madhya Pradesh along with one or two heavy spells. Umaria saw 61 mm of rainfall, while Jabalpur 7 mm, Khajuraho 7 mm, Rewa and Gwalior a mere of 2 mm, respectively.

Now, these rains and thundershowers are likely to pick up the pace. As per Skymet Weather, there is a low-pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Odisha which is expected to travel westward. Due to this, we can expect good rain and thundershower to continue over the districts of East Madhya Pradesh such as Jabalpur, Umaria, Damoh, Sidhi and Satna for the next few days.

However at the same time, scanty rainfall is likely in the districts of West Madhya Pradesh, for instance, Ratlam, Ujjain, Bhopal, Indore, and Khandwa.

Generally, East Madhya Pradesh gets influenced by the westerly movement of the weather systems that form over north or west-central parts of Bay of Bengal. If the system is not active enough then its strength gets exhausted over East Madhya Pradesh only. Thus, West Madhya Pradesh does not see much rains.

However, if the system is strong enough, it may travel up to West Madhya Pradesh and sometimes even up to East Rajasthan and Gujarat that we had seen in the second and third week of July.

Although there is a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal but we do not anticipate it to be powerful and so, good rain and thundershower are not foreseen for at least the following one week.

As on August 12, the state of Madhya Pradesh is rain deficient by 10%, whereas East and West by 11% and 9%, respectively.
