On the other hand, Haryana still waits for the good Monsoon rains, where only scattered light rains have commenced breaking the prolonged dry spell. On account of these showers, the rain deficiency in Haryana now stands at 12%.

In the course of 24 hours, Ludhiana reported rains to the tune of 55 mm, Anandpur Sahib 26 mm, Chandigarh 12 mm, Narnaul 8 mm, Pathankot 5 mm, Jalandhar 3 mm, Hisar 2 mm and Sirsa 1 mm.

Now, the axis of Monsoon trough is running south of Haryana, nevertheless, we expect the western arm of the trough to gradually shift northwards. As a result, rains would increase over Haryana as well.

In a nutshell, on and off rains are anticipated to continue over both, Punjab and Haryana till July 18 or 19. However, the intensity of the showers is expected to be on the higher side over northern parts of Punjab.

Places that would relish the showers include Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Ambala, Karnal and Panipat.

So, we could say that in the approaching days, the rain surplus of Punjab would increase, while the rain deficit in Haryana would narrow down.
