Kolkata has a good Monsoon run during the month of July, as the city recorded good rains on several occasions. Rains of varying intensity were witnessed from light to moderate and at times even heavy showers whipped the City of Joy.

Not just the city, the state of West Bengal also witnessed on and off good rain and thundershowers. These showers have resulted in pleasant weather conditions across both the state including the capital. At present, temperatures are also settling below the normal levels.
The last 24 hours were also no different and Kolkata recorded a good 28 mm of rainfall. The reason for these rains, as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to the well-marked low pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand.

This system is expected to fade and then shift toward Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh. Consequently, the intensity of rains will reduce after 24 hours, but light to moderate rains will continue to batter the city.
So far in the month of July, the city of Kolkata has recorded a total of 575.5 mm of rainfall against its monthly mean of 396 mm. It is quite evident from the figures that the city has surpassed its monthly mean with almost difference of 179.5 mm.
