After remaining dry for last several days, Monsoon rains have finally made a comeback over Chennai and other parts of North Coastal Tamil Nadu.

In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Chennai recorded 4 mm. However, Cuddalore recorded moderate showers of 68 mm.

Further we can expect, light to moderate rain and thundershowers to continue over Chennai and nearby areas till June 26. Skymet Weather predicts, that the most probable time for the weather activity would be during the early morning hours or late evening and night.

As per the weathermen, Tamil Nadu, particularly the coastal areas are presently witnessing normal Monsoon conditions.
The fresh Monsoon surge is seen on the account of a formation of a fresh cyclonic circulation over west-central Bay of Bengal. The system is will be affecting coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu till June 26.

Thereafter, this circulation is likely to move inland in west direction and start affecting several parts of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Subsequently, with the passage of the system, Monsoon will once become subdued over Tamil Nadu from June 27 onwards.

Being a rain shadow area, Tamil Nadu including Chennai does not record much rains during the Southwest Monsoon. The state records its majority of rainfall during the Northeast Monsoon that spans from October till December.
