Monsoon Rains Play Hide And Seek For Delhi, Decent Showers Likely

Despite favourable conditions, monsoon rains are giving amiss to the national capital for the last few days. Actually, after the deluge on 28thJune, typical monsoon showers have been far and few.  In the past 24 hours, except for Lodhi Road observatory recording trace of rainfall, rest of the region was generally dry.  Peripherals of Delhi to the south of capital city witnessed cloud build up with moderate showers.  Stations in the vicinity of Delhi/NCR like Karnal. Ambala, Bulandshahar, Aligarh, Moradabad had decent showers.  Moradabad and Aligarh recorded 62mm and 35mm rainfall respectively.  Conditions remain favourable for Delhi to have decent showers in the evening/night.

Seasonal monsoon trough is nicely established and pass through Rohtak-Delhi and thence eastward across Indo-Gangetic plains.  Feeble cyclonic circulation is also embedded in the trough, close to Delhi.  Meteorological features remain promising for moderate showers for the national capital and suburbs. Most of the activity is likely in the evening and early night.

With the monsoon easterlies persistent over Delhi region, humidity will remain high.  Cloud cover will give a  hazy and gloomy look.  Breeze is unlikely to pick up and therefore, sultry conditions will prevail. With such conditions, the mercury level  will remain suppressed and confined to low 30’s and occasionally around mid-30’s.  The minimum temperature will hang around in mid-20’s.  Under windy conditions, nights and morning conditions will remain bearable.
