rain-in-keralaWhile fairly widespread heavy showers continued to lash Coastal Karnataka, intensity of rains has reduced slightly over Kerala in span of last 24 hours. However, isolated pockets of both the region has recorded heavy to very heavy showers as well.

In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Agumbe in Karnataka recorded 104 mm of rain, Karwar 47.8 mm, Mangalore 2 mm, and Raichur 48 mm.

While Quilandy in Kerala recorded 68 mm, followed by Thalassery 58.2 mm, Palakkad 38.1 mm, Irinjalakuda 54 mm, Vellanikkara 67.8 mm, and Cherthala 25 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation that has been responsible for the heavy to extremely heavy showers over the region has moved further northwards and so does the rain belt.

The system is now prevailing over Arabian Sea off the coastal parts of Karnataka and Kerala. According to Skymet Weather, the circulation will continue to travel in northerly direction.

With this rains over Kerala may reduce slightly but presence of Monsoon surge over the coastal state will continue to give rains, though of varied intensity.

As per the weathermen, this is a normal feature of Monsoon season wherein rains keep waxing and waning at regular intervals.

Let us have a look at the following 14 stations, whose rainfall dictates the onset of Monsoon over Indian mainland. The rainfall criteria for Monsoon is only met when 2.5 mm of rain is recorded for two consecutive days in over 60 percent of these stations.
