Monsoon Rains likely in Chennai, Vellore, and Cuddalore for 24 to 36 hours

During the Monsoon season, the state of Tamil Nadu generally remains dry and very warm. However, in the last 24 to 48 hours, many places of Tamil Nadu have experienced light to moderate rain and thundershowers with isolated places recording heavy rains.

In the past 24 hours, Vellore and Madurai have recorded 49 mm and 3 mm of rains, respectively.

These weather conditions are in wake of a Cyclonic Circulation over the Southwest Bay of Bengal at middle and upper air tropospheric levels. Now, this Cyclonic Circulation is likely to weaken hence, rainfall will now decrease and will be restricted northeastern and northern parts of Tamil Nadu.

However, the southern parts are likely to remain very dry and warm. Places like Chennai, Thiruttani, Vellore, Cuddalore, Karaikal, Salem, and Coimbatore, etc. are likely to witness light rain activities with moderate spells at few places for 24 to 36 hours.

These rains will be helpful in replenishing groundwater level and will make up marginally for previous dry days.
