Monsoon rains lash Bihar, Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh

For the past few days, East India including Bihar, Jharkhand and East Uttar Pradesh have been witnessing light to moderate rain. Also, Monsoon has already advanced over entire East India and a few parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Currently, a trough is extending from North Rajasthan to Tripura across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Due to this, fairly widespread rains have occurred over parts of East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. This trough is expected to persist and more rains will continue over the above-mentioned areas.

As per Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rain is also expected over East Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Sikkim and foothills of East Uttar Pradesh. Whereas, Jharkhand and western parts of southeast Uttar Pradesh will continue to receive on and off scattered light to moderate showers.

The table below shows the rainfall amounts recorded during the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday:

As of June 22, rainfall amounts over East Uttar Pradesh are merely 1% below the normal levels, Bihar is 6% below normal, Jharkhand is 26% below normal, Gangetic West Bengal is 13% below normal and Odisha is 30% below normal. However, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal ha received 16 % more rains than the average levels.

Good rains are expected to continue for another 3 to 4 days. Thus, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal may receive above normal rains until the end of the month. East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are expected to remain normal by June end. However, Jharkhand and Odisha may witness rainfall deficiency as heavy to very heavy rains are not expected over the region.
