Monsoon rains increasing by the day along West Coast

June 26, 2016 12:52 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Monsoon seems to be vigorous along the West Coast of India. Skymet had predicted way back in its first Monsoon forecast that West Coast will receive good rainfall activities this Monsoon season. Seems like, there is much meat in the forecast for the West Coast.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is lying over South Gujarat and adjoining North Konkan & Goa region. A trough from this system is extending up to North Kerala Coast. Due to the effect of these weather systems moderate to heavy rainfall is going on along the West Coast, right from North Kerala to Konkan & Goa and Gujarat.

We expect that moderate to heavy rainfall will continue over the entire West Coast. However, rain intensity over Kerala will be light to moderate. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is also expected over Maharashtra and Gujarat Coast. After 24 hours, the intensity of rainfall over Gujarat coast will reduce but Maharashtra will continue to receive moderate to heavy rain. From late night of June 28 to June 30, we can expect some extremely heavy rainfall spells over North Coastal Maharashtra.

Here's a look at the rainfall figures along the West Coast during last 24 hours:

Coastal parts of Gujarat have also received good showers with Porbandar recording 52 mm and Dwarka 42 mm, during last 24 hours.
