The state of Maharashtra has been a mixed bag in terms of Monsoon rains during the month of July. While two sub-divisions have been super performers with excess rains, the other two are slightly behind with receiving just about normal rains.

A series of weather systems have been affecting the region with heavy rainfall over many parts of the state. In fact, now even Mumbai rains which were staggering have picked up pace. The last 24 hours have also been good for many other parts of Maharashtra.

During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Akola received a good 66 mm of rain. During the same period, Aurangabad recorded a good 35 mm of rainfall. These rains are expected to continue for another 24 hours as well.

Currently, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over Marathwada and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra. Another cyclonic circulation is over South Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas. These weather systems have been responsible for giving rains over interior parts of Maharashtra.

Due to these weather features, rainfall activity is expected over Vidarbha, Marathwada as well as a few areas of Madhya Maharashtra. In fact, some areas over these sub-divisions could also witness heavy rainfall.

Currently, Vidarbha is the best performing region in Maharashtra with 40 percent rainfall surplus. Marathwada is slightly behind with the rainfall surplus of 28 percent. Both of these sub divisions are under the excess rainfall category.
