The city has also exceeded its monthly average rainfall of 95 mm in just 24 hours. Ahmedabad rains in last 24 hours was in three digits for the second time in last ten years.

Updated on 24th June, 2015:Incessant Monsoon rains have been lashing Rajkot. The city in a span of 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Tuesday has recorded 167 mm of rain. With this, Rajkot has surpassed all-time high 24-hour rainfall record of 155.3 mm, recorded in June, 2005.

So far in this month, Rajkot has received 320 mm of rain, which is more than double the monthly average rainfall of 115.2 mm.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a depression which had formed over Arabian Sea had crossed the Gujarat coast on Tuesday and triggered extremely heavy rains over the city.

As per the latest forecast, moderate to heavy rain will continue over Rajkot during the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of rain will reduce as the system will become less marked while moving inland.

After recording some good pre-monsoon showers, we expect Rajkot to continue receiving good Monsoon rain as well.

Southwest Monsoon made onset over Gujarat on June 14, but its arrival over Rajkot was declared only by June 22, which is a little late than its onset date. This is because a cyclonic circulation had developed in the Arabian Sea which had slowed down the progress of Monsoon.

All the moisture was getting concentrated around the system (cyclonic circulation), giving more rain over Konkan & Goa region. However, as the system moved closer to the Gujarat coast, intensity of rain picked up which influenced Monsoon surge and further advanced into Central Gujarat.
