Rain in MaharashtraThe entire country, including South and Central India, witnessed surplus rainfall in the month of June. The former received 19% more rains than the normal average, while the latter received surplus Monsoon rains to the tune of 22%.

July and August witnessed subdued Monsoon conditions. Most parts of the country received poor rains, but Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh in Central India recorded surplus rains.

Rest of Central and Peninsular India remained rainfall deficit by the end of August. The rainfall deficiency kept increasing and as on September 9, Central India was deficient by 20% and Peninsular India by 17%.

The worst affected meteorological subdivisions were North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Marathwada. It has been raining in entire Peninsular India for the last couple of days and condition now seems to be improving in the areas of concern. Monsoon has revived in these areas. The present spell of rainfall is proving to be extremely beneficial for the Kharif crops, which were on the verge of dying. If rainfall would have been delayed by few more days, the standing crops would have suffered.

Moderate to heavy Monsoon rains have been lashing Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, most parts Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Tamil Nadu has also received good rains during last 2 to 3 days. According to Skymet, intensity of rainfall will now reduce over Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Monsoon rains will continue for another 4 to 5 days over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, most parts of Maharashtra and southern parts of Madhya Pradesh.

The present spell of rain will not only revive the standing crops but also fill in the water reservoirs. A low pressure area is expected to form in Westcentral Bay of Bengal, which will enhance the rainfall activity over Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.
