The West Coast is the rainiest pocket during the Monsoon season and three digit rains are quite a common affair for the states of Kerala, Konkan and Goa as well as the Coastal Karnataka region. In fact, this Monsoon season also, rains have been on the higher side for all these areas.

Moreover, places like Ratnagiri, Vengurla, Goa have already recorded rainfall over the 1000 millimetre mark. In fact, all the three regions of the West Coast at present remain on the surplus side only.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Mangaluru witnessed 65.4 mm of rains, Honavar 47.5 mm, Ratnagiri 29 mm, Mahabaleshwar 34 mm, Harnai 15 mm, Alappuzha 22 mm, Kochi 12 mm, Kannur 12 mm, Punalur 16 mm.

Rains have not been very hefty for the past two to three days. However, rainfall activity is expected to pick up pace very soon over the southern parts of the West Coast due to activation of Monsoon surge and the off shore trough which has been persisting along the coastal parts of these states.

In fact, Coastal Karnataka as well as Kerala are expected to see good Monsoon rains during the next 24 to 48 hours. Meanwhile, rains will remain the same for the Konkan region and intensity here will pick up pace around the first few days of July as the Monsoon surge will also cover the Konkan region. During that time, some good amount of rains can be expected over the Konkan region.
