This June, Marathwada has emerged to be one of the best-performing subdivisions of Maharashtra. In fact, as on June 28, Marathwada has recorded 127.6 mm of rain against the normal of 132.5 mm. Therefore, the state has received 4% less rains than normal.
The adjoining region of Vidarbha, has received 108.6 mm of rainfall against the normal of 152.3 mm. At present, the state is 29% rainfall deficit.
Monsoon covered Marathwada on June 20, after a delay of about 10 days. Thereafter, good rains continued over the region. Rain intensity picked up pace during last 24 hours in wake of the low pressure area, which originated over west-central Bay of Bengal and traveled via Telangana to Maharashtra. Recently, good rains have been observed across Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Now, the low pressure area has diffused as a cyclonic circulation, sitting over Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh. But, a fresh cyclonic circulation is brewing over west-central Bay of Bengal, off Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast. It will possibly induce a low pressure area and could shift inland any time after 24 hours. It will once again travel in a westerly direction and move inland.
Therefore, we can expect good rains to continue over several places including Nagpur, Akola, Chandrapur, Beed and Latur.
Besides Vidarbha and Marathwada, the fresh Monsoon system will enhance Monsoon rains over Telangana, South Madhya Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
