Heavy Monsoon Rains ditches Delhi once again, expect another spell around July 31

July 26, 2019 10:31 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Yesterday, areas to the east and west of Delhi recorded heavy Monsoon showers. These heavy rains occurred around Delhi and NCR like Meerut received 103 mm of rains, Pilani 72 mm, Alwar 40 mm, and Sikar 128 mm. Apparently, despite having good chances of rain in Delhi, the capital witnessed only traces of rain in some pockets.

Hence, it is safe to say that the heavy rain alert for Delhi doesn’t hold any longer. This is because the axis of Monsoon Trough is still south of Delhi. Now, we expect the Trough to move further South. Therefore, heavy rains will remain confined to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh only.

However, the continuation of humid easterly winds will result in short spells of rain and thundershowers in Delhi and NCR, also one or two moderate spells cannot be ruled out.

These rains and thundershowers may continue until July 27. The weather will be cloudy and comfortable for another two days. Thereafter, we expect, the weather of Delhi to turn dry and temperatures will gradually inch towards normal and may become above normal by a couple of degrees.

Yesterday, Delhi recorded 30.5°C which is below normal by four degrees. However, isolated localised rain activities cannot be ruled out. Our experts expect a good spell of rain around July 31 due to the movement of the axis of Monsoon Trough to North and during that time it will be in the proximity of Delhi only.
