Northeast India Rains

Good Monsoon rains are going on over most parts of Northeast India.

These rains can be attributed to the low-level cyclonic circulation that is persisting over the Northeast region. Moreover, southerly moist winds from the Bay of Bengal are also prevailing over Arunachal Pradesh.

The combined effect of these moist winds and cyclonic circulation over Meghalaya and neighbouring areas will bring scattered moderate rains over NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura), Assam and Meghalaya. In the meantime, Arunachal Pradesh will witness light to moderate showers.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Dhubri recorded 48.4 mm of Monsoon showers. Other areas that have received rains include Tezpur 41 mm, Goalpara 16 mm, Pasighat 16.4 mm, Itanagar 19 mm, Pasighat 16.4 mm, Tawang 14 mm, Agartala 13.4 mm and Lengpui 13.2 mm of rainfall.

East and Northeast India are at present observing rainfall deficiency of 12%. Till date, the region comprising Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura is rain deficient by 18% while Assam and Meghalaya are rain deficient by 32%. It is only Arunachal Pradesh where rain deficiency is 4% which falls under the normal rain category.

The normal average rainfall is high for Northeast India that is the reason why even light to moderate rainfall seems not good enough for the region.
