June 10, 2016 11:30 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Monsoon current remains active over South Peninsula, particularly over the West Coast. Moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers continued to lash Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa region on Thursday as well.

Few pockets of Coastal Karnataka have also recorded very heavy to extremely heavy showers during last 24 hours.

According to Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation in the Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast continues to strengthen the Monsoon surge. The system is still seen in mid-levels but has slightly shifted closer to the coast. As a result, intensity of rains has been more between Mangalore and Ratnagiri.

Further, we expect this system to be stationed at the present location and thus, good rains will continue all along the coast for at least next 3-4 days. However, intensity of rains will be more over Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa region.

Rain belt will soon cover Mumbai, wherein the city will start witnessing on and off light rains now onwards. Thereafter, intensity will increase from June 13 as Monsoon is likely to arrive over Mumbai around that time.

Let us have a look at the following rainfall figures recorded across the region in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday.
