Monsoon rains begin in Pune

June 20, 2016 5:34 PM |

Monsoon rains begin in PuneSouthwest Monsoon has finally made an onset over almost entire Maharashtra barring very few parts of extreme North Madhya Maharashtra. Pune has finally begun to receive Monsoon rains after a delay of ten days. Light rainfall activity was also observed over Pune on June 19. During the last 24 hours, the city recorded 1.7 mm of rain.

Heavy rains are more common over the Western Ghats side. In fact, rainfall activity remains subdued on the other side particularly over Nashik and Pune. For instance, the monthly average rains for Pune stand at 116.1 mm as compared to Mumbai’s 523.1 mm.

Though the number of rainy days are high, heavy rains do not occur over the city. Passing showers are a common sight for Pune, however, the intensity of these rains remains on the lighter side. A few occasional spells of moderate showers are also witnessed during the Monsoon season.

With the arrival of Southwest Monsoon over Pune, pleasant weather conditions take over and hot weather takes a back seat. The city usually receives rain every now and then during the season, due to which carrying an umbrella at all times becomes a necessity.

In the coming days, on and off light showers will continue over the city. Temperatures will also be in the comfortable range leading to both pleasant days and nights.
