This year Southwest Monsoon has given a few good spells of rain over the state of Chhattisgarh. In fact, the region enjoyed heavy rains on several occasions. These rains have been attributed to the Monsoon systems which formed in the Bay of Bengal and further moved inland increasing rains over the region.
At present, an upper air cyclonic circulation is over Bihar and adjoining East Uttar Pradesh. Until yesterday, the weather system was a Low Pressure Area which had been giving good rains over East India. A few parts of Central India were also witnessing some rains.
During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rains have been observed over the state of Chhattisgarh. These rains have been attributed to the existing weather system.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Jagdalpur recorded a whopping 59.5 mm of rain followed by Durg where 31.2 mm rain was recorded. Other areas to have received rains include Rajnandgaon 11.8 mm, Raipur 10.5 mm, Ambikapur 8.5 mm, Bilaspur 2.3 mm, and Pendra 0.3 mm.
These Monsoon rains are expected to continue for another 24 hours as well. The intensity of these rains is expected to increase. So far, Chhattisgarh is witnessing a rainfall deficiency of 8 percent making it fall under the normal category.
