For the last many days, Monsoon rains have remained far and few over Gujarat. As a result, the state has been battling high rainfall deficiency. But now, rains are all set to make a comeback over the state.
According to Skymet Weather, the return of these rains can be attributed to the depression, presently seen over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining Odisha. The system will continue to move in west-northwest direction.
Though system is likely to weaken gradually into a well-marked low pressure area but it would be capable enough to give rains over the region.
We can expect rains to now pick up pace over Gujarat and most parts of the state would see moderate Monsoon rains with few heavy spells on Thursday. These showers are likely to continue till tomorrow.
Places like Ahmedabad, Baroda, Rajkot, Surat, and Valsad will record moderate showers with one or two heavy spells during the next 24 to 48 hours. Intensity would be less over Bhuj, Naliya, Kandla, Banaskantha and Dwarka that would settle with scattered light rains only.
By August 18, Kutch region will also start receiving few moderate spells. By August 19, this weather system is most likely to become insignificant, leading to significant reduction rains over the state. However, remnants of the system would continue to give scattered light rains over South Gujarat that include areas like Surat, Valsad, Bhavnagar, Navsari, and Narmada.
As on August 16, Saurashtra and Kutch is battling cumulative rainfall deficiency of 31%, while Gujarat region is witnessing deficiency to the tune of 21%.
