Monsoon rain saga continues over Mumbai

Mumbai Rains 1

Mumbai  rains have been displaying quite a show for the past few days. While the intensity had remained on the lower side over the maximum city a few days ago, Monsoon showers have picked up pace.

This rain saga began on the auspicious day of Ganpati Visarjan and continues till date. During this time frame, both the observatories of Mumbai have received heavy Monsoon rains. In fact, Colaba even recorded three digit rains a day before.

The last 24 hours were no different as Monsoon showers continued to lash the maximum city. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Santa Cruz observatory in Mumbai received 56.8 mm of rainfall.

The Colaba observatory also recorded good Monsoon rains of 54.8 mm during the last 24 hours. These Monsoon rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which was over Madhya Maharashtra until yesterday.

Mumbai is expected to receive moderate to heavy rains today as well. However, the intensity of rains will slightly reduce tomorrow onward due to the dissipation of the weather system. But, the city will continue to witness light to moderate showers thereafter as well.

So far, Mumbai has been able to receive 264.9 mm of rain against its monthly average of 312.3 mm rainfall. It seems that the city will easily be able to surpass its monthly mean in a few days’ time.
