During the Southwest Monsoon season from June 1 to September 30, the West Coast including Coastal Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala receives some exceptionally good rains. To such an extent that three digit rains becomes every now and then affair over the region.
This year, Monsoon began on a very good note along the West Coast, giving good rain and thundershowers over the region. However, thereafter, reduction in rain activity was witnessed over the west coastal regions.

This could be attributed to the weak Monsoon surge and the off shore trough running along the West Coast that became less marked. Owing to this, no further progress was seen in the performance of Monsoon.
However, in the last 24 hours, some light to moderate with isolated heavy showers were observed over Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. As per Skymet Weather, the Monsoon rains have picked up pace again as the off-shore trough has become activated and presently, the Monsoon surge is also active.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Mangaluru recorded 73 mm of heavy rains, followed by Kozhikode 46 mm, Alapuzha 31 mm, Agumbe 30 mm, Mahabaleshwar 27 mm, Kochi 23 mm, Honnavar 19 mm, Dahanu 12 mm, Alibag and Ratnagiri 7 mm, Vengurla 5 mm, Panjim and Mumbai 2 mm of light showers.
Weathermen predict moderate to heavy rains over South Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Meanwhile, isolated very heavy falls cannot be ruled out over South Konkan and Goa.
Presently, Kerala has been witnessing a deficiency of 32 percent while Konkan and Coastal Karnataka are deficient by 9 percent.
