Southwest Monsoon remains active over Northeast India, as fairly widespread heavy to very heavy rains have been recorded over most parts of the region during the last 24 hours.
Cherrapunji in Meghalaya recorded whopping 340.2 mm of rain, while Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh received 267 mm.
The Monsoon had made onset over Northeast India on June 6, also covering areas of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a well-marked cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam coupled with the moist winds from Bay of Bengal. Both the factors coupled together are giving rain over the region.
As per the latest forecast by Skymet, the rain activity is expected to continue for the next 48 hours as well.
In wake of the recent rain activity, people across the region are witnessing pleasant weather conditions. Maximum temperatures are settling in high 20s, while minimum temperatures are in low 20s.
