Due to cyclonic circulation over central parts of Assam and incursion of moist winds from Bay of Bengal, moderate to heavy rains with few very heavy spells are likely to continue over the northeastern states.

Monsoon remained active during the last 24 hours over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and the northeastern states. In fact, heavy rains were recorded in many parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and light to moderate rainfall activity over rest all parts of Northeast India. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal also recorded good rainfall.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Cherrapunji recorded 153 mm of rain, followed by Tezpur 79 mm, Kohima 38 mm, North Lakhimpur 24 mm, Guwahati 19 mm, Silchar 17 mm.
The northeastern states remained subdued for a long period of time during the beginning of July. Thus, the seasonal rainfall is deficient over most parts of Northeast India.
Arunachal Prdaesh is rainfall deficient by 36%, followed by Assam 29%, Meghalaya 45%, Nagaland 31%, Manipur 65%, Mizoram 5%, Tripura 14% and West Bengal 19%. Meanwhile, Sikkim is rain surplus by 11%.
As a part of the monsoon trough is moving across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and the moist southerly winds are strengthening. We expect good rainfall activity in coming days over all the northeastern states along with West Bengal and Sikkim.
Modera to heavy rains are expect over many parts with isolated very heavy showers. These rainfall activities will continue for the next two to three days. Lightning strike may also occur over some parts.
