As predicted by Skymet Weather, Monsoon rains over Maharashtra saw a massive reduction on the last day. Especially, the major effect of the reduction in the rain activity was seen over North Konkan division wherein, after experiencing three-digit rains for four consecutive days, rain in single digits were recorded. South Konkan region on the other hand, still recorded moderate with isolated heavy spells.
On the other hand, the rains over parts of Vidarbha maintained their intensity and the region saw a few light to moderate spells. Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra regions experienced some light spells with isolated moderate showers.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Vengurla recorded heavy rains to the tune of 85 mm, Ratnagiri 45 mm, Wardha 39 mm, Amravati 31 mm, Akola 23 mm, Nashik 19 mm, Kolhapur 19 mm, Satara 14 mm, Dahanu 7 mm, Nagpur 6 mm, and Mumbai recorded 5 mm of light spells.
As per Skymet Weather, these rains were due to the persistence of the cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat. In addition to this, the offshore trough is also seen extending from Coastal Karnataka to Kerala coast.

Hence, as of now, we expect the similar kind of weather to continue over the state. Light to moderate rains are expected to continue over Madhya Maharashtra, North Konkan, many parts of Vidarbha and isolated pockets of Marathwada. However, the rain intensity would be moderate to heavy over South Konkan region.

Thus, we can say that for the next 24 to 48 hours, good rains would though continue over the state, the intensity would remain on the lower side. Thereafter, the Monsoon surge would become active again over North Konkan around July 14 or 15 and during that time we can expect rain intensity to pick up the pace over Mumbai and adjoining parts of north coastal Maharashtra.
At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:
Farmers are recommended to continue sowing of Kharif crops such as Paddy, Soybean, Cotton, Maize, Tur, Bajra etc, In Marathwada, farmers are advised to refrain from sowing operations so as to avoid crop failure.
In the early sown crops of Soybean, Cotton, Maize, weeding /intercultural operations followed by the top dressing of sufficient quantity of fertilizers is advised. In Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra region, farmers are advised to undertake paddy transplanting of 20-25 days old seedling and drain out excess water from the paddy field.
Farmers are also advised to stay cautious, and take necessary measures to control the attack of pink bollworm.
