In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Thiruvananthapuram recorded heavy rain to the tune of 31.2 mm of rain, Punalur 27.4 mm, Alapuzha 9 mm and Kottayam 6.2 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, an upper air trough will extend along Kerala and Karnataka coast adjoining Southeastern parts of the Arabian Sea. Simultaneously, westerly to northwesterly currents are strengthening slowly along the Kerala coast. However, the intensity of Monsoon rains would be light to moderate over Kerala during the next 24 hours. Until then, Monsoon is likely to remain normal.

Thereafter, with the strengthening of westerly and northwesterly currents, moderate Monsoon rains are expected to occur at many places with heavy at few places after 24 to 36 hours over Kerala. Thus, active Monsoon conditions would prevail after 24 to 36 over Kerala. These showers would continue to occur for the next many days thereafter. The temperatures would also witness a dip after 24 to 36 hours, when hefty showers will once again return to Kerala.
