As expected, the dry spell has finally come to an end in Vidarbha. The well-marked low pressure area, which was situated over Jharkhand and adjoining parts of north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh, shifted westwards.
It has now intensified into a depression and we can now see the weather system lying over Southeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Vidarbha region.
In last 24 hours, the well-marked low pressure area has brought widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over South Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Here’s a look at the rainfall figures recorded in a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Monday:
Nagpur recorded 48 mm of rain, Wardha 59 mm, Amravati 32 mm, Akola 31 mm, Yavatmal 27 mm, Brahmapuri 24 mm, Washim 15 mm.
Very heavy rainfall will continue over the region for another day. Thereafter, the intensity of rain will reduce and moderate showers will continue at many places.
At present Marathwada is highly deficient, to the tune of 58%. This region also received some light rain on Monday. Intensity of rain will increase now and it will continue till August 6. This spell will bring down the rain deficiency in the region to some extent.
Monsoon 2015 in Vidarbha and Marathwada
On Monday, Skymet had predicted that the prolonged dry spell in Vidarbha and Marathwada will come to an end very soon. Central India has been performing pretty well this Monsoon season. And, most parts of Maharashtra were no different from the rest. Till June 30, Vidarbha had recorded 52% excess rainfall and Marathwada was within normal limits at around -17% of Monsoon rains.
In the entire month of June, Vidarbha received good amounts of rain, but in July rainfall was subdued. Occasional Monsoon showers were witnessed mostly over Nagpur, Washim and Chandrapur. However, the rainfall was not enough to sustain even normal levels of Monsoon rains.
