Monsoon Mercy Over Rainfall Deficit Areas, Better Late Than Never

July 19, 2022 8:20 PM |

States of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal are reeling under excruciating weather conditions since the beginning of ‘Monsoon’.  Southwest monsoon as such, made a submissive and delayed start over this region, more so for  Uttar Pradesh. East Uttar Pradesh is the worst hit pocket with shortfall of over 70% and the rest of the region also breathing heavy with deficiency hovering around 50% rainfall. Some of the districts are on the verge of extermination due to extremely poor and scanty rainfall for extended durations.

Undoubtedly, the rains are getting delayed beyond call of duty. However, there is a silver lining for the entire region, for an upcoming spell, quenching thrust, the 1st of its kind of the season, shortly. No monsoon system travelled over these areas and the monsoon trough, more synonymous with Indo Gangetic plains was totally amiss, in the season so far. Other multiple factors including lack of westerly disturbances and ‘in situ’ weather systems raised scarcity levels, difficult to apprehend.

Wait for rains is surely getting shorter and the jinx of ‘drouth’ will end soon.  Weather systems are getting aligned to splash the entire region for adequate duration, albeit in a staggered manner. The swash will start with Uttar Pradesh in the next 24hr and extend to cover the rest of the region subsequently. Monsoon trough is in the process of shifting northward across Indo Gangetic plains. Also, the cyclonic circulation will appear shortly and meander over the region to keep the monsoon activity ‘on’ for the next one week or more.

State of Uttar Pradesh is expected to have strong activity all along its east-west stretch commencing tomorrow. Active to normal monsoon conditions are likely to last over the region for the remaining days of the month.  After a brief pause in the intense weather, mid way through, speedy and sturdy twist in the weather conditions is expected between 26th and 28thJuly.  Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal will be the main beneficiaries of the upcoming wet spell.
