Monsoon like heavy rains to return in Kerala

June 5, 2016 12:02 PM |

Inside - Kerala - June 5

Moderate to heavy rainfall lashed Kerala coast between May 28 and June 1. Some places like Kannur and Kozhikode received extremely heavy rainfall during this period. Since then rain has reduced significantly over central and southern parts of Kerala. There is some scattered light to moderate rainfall still going on, but good rain is confined to northern Kerala and adjoining areas.

Skymet Weather had predicted the onset of monsoon around May 28-30. During this time Kerala has seen fairly widespread heavy rainfall activity. In the view of Skymet Weather the rain intensity will decrease over Kerala during first week of June, before commencement of new Monsoon surge around June 6 or 7.

The reason for this decreased rainfall is a cyclonic circulation which is persisting off Karnataka coast leading to increased rainfall activities over Karnataka and Konkan-Goa.

Gradually during next 48 hours, we expect that this weather system will once again shift towards south and a trough is also expected to form leading to increase in rainfall activity so we can say that by June 6 or 7, fairly widespread good rainfall will once again commence over most parts of Kerala.

Simultaneously the rainfall will continue throughout the west coast in Konkan-Goa, Karnataka and Marathwada.
