Usually the rainfall activity in Northeast India is unrelenting around the time of onset of Monsoon in India. And that is exactly what is happening in Northeast India. On and off rains have been lashing the entire region, with more heavy rains in offing. With respect to a cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast, heavy and widespread rains over Northeast India cannot be ruled out.
The weather system over Bay of Bengal is likely to become more marked and move towards coastal Odisha and southern West Bengal or even Bangladesh. Similarly the weather system that is already prevailing over the Northeast India will infuse the moisture from the cyclonic circulation making the impact and intensity of rains more heavy than usual, in some cases leading to flood like situation.
For the time being there has been scattered rainfall recorded over northeastern states. Silchar in Assam recorded 70 mm of rainfall. While in Agartala, Tripura witnessed 37 mm of rainfall. Guwahati has recorded 33 mm of rains.
In the last 24 hours scattered rain has been lashing the entire northeastern part of India. In the coming 3 days, these rains will become fairly widespread resulting in good showers over the area.
These rains may increase the chances of flood like situation in the entire region. Regions like Assam and Meghalaya will be extremely vulnerable whereas rest of the Northeast States will be vulnerable too.
