Heavy rain in excess of 70 mm is expected at isolated places in Kerala coast during the next 24 hours. Rainfall activities would pick up thereafter over the entire state. Rain will also continue over east India in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Sikkim during the period. Temperatures in northwest India are expected to maintain their near average trend during the next two days.
Summermonsoonrain is expected to gain foothold inKeraladuring the next few days. More than 70 mm of rain is expected at isolated places on the coastline during the next 24 hours. Rain would increase and spread to many places in the state thereafter. Moist westerly winds would be speeding up to 45 to 55 kmph in Kerala in this period.
According to Mahesh Palawat, “Light to moderate rain at many places would continue during the next 48 hours. One or two places could get heavy rain in Kerala during the next two days.” Three day Skymet weather forecasts approximately 70 mm rain atKochi, 68 mm atThiruvananthapuramand in excess of 76 mm atKozhikodetill Sunday.
Coastal Karanataka will also get monsoon rain during the next two to three days.Mangalorein the region will receive moderate rain during the period. The city has already received rain more than 20 mm in the last 24 hours. Rain will also increase in Konkan and Goa and over south Maharashtra from Sunday onwards.
East India has cooled down due to rain during the last 24 hours. Rain is headed towards most of the places in Bihar and Jharkhand in the next 24 hours. West Bengal and Sikkim will also have rain at many places during the period. Rain will decrease in these areas thereafter. These areas are witnessing rain due to adepressionover West Bengal near Bankura district.
Some showers are also expected at one or two places in east Uttar Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.
The weather system over West Bengal will move to northeast states after the next 24 hours. Rain will increase in northeast states and many places will witness rain. But the depression would die down into a low thereafter.
Hot and dry weather would continue in northwest and central India as no rain is expected. Howevertemperaturesare expected to maintain in lower forties in coming two days as southwesterly winds are approaching the region.
