The cumulative Monsoon rainfall deficiency has mounted to 3% in India. Nevertheless, during last 24 hours the country has received almost normal rains. On August 29 as well the country received 6.7 mm of rainfall against the normal of 7.1 mm.
Monsoon rains can be witnessed over most parts of India.
North India
In northern parts of the country, torrential rains have brought life to a standstill in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). On Wednesday morning road massive traffic jams and water-logging affected commuters across the region.
Reportedly, all flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi. One flight was also diverted to Jaipur.
The ongoing spell of rain could be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Haryana. Moreover, the axis of Monsoon trough is also moving very close to Delhi.
At present it is moving across Bikaner, Agra, Allahabad, Gaya, Malda and then eastwards to Nagaland.

The axis of the Monsoon trough is likely to shift further towards the foothills of the Himalayas. Thus, rainfall could reduce over the region.
During last 24 hours, Ambala also received 66 mm of rainfall and Chandigarh 23 mm.
East India
Southwest Monsoon has been bringing good Monsoon rains over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as well.
In Uttar Pradesh, Bahraich received 84.4 mm of rainfall, Varanasi 40 mm and Lucknow 26.5 mm. In Bihar, Supaul received heavy showers during last 24 hours.
Moreover, rains will now increase along Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Gangtok could receive moderate to heavy showers.

Peninsular India
Southwest Monsoon has been bringing good Monsoon rains over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu as well. Coastal parts of Karnataka also received moderate to heavy showers. Agumbe recorded 45.2 mm, Honavar 72 mm and Bengaluru 33.5 mm. Nanded in Maharashtra recorded 114 mm of rainfall. Chennai received 11 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours.
Hyderabad has received 71 mm of rainfall in a span of 3 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday. Incessant rains throughout the night caused water logging at several places. Moreover, seven people lost their lives in two separate rain related events.

Rainfall is likely to continue over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during next 2 days in view of the Monsoon trough persisting over the region.
