Monsoon fury looming large over Uttarakhand once again

At present, Southwest Monsoon seems to be vigorous over Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra & Kutch regions. Active Monsoon conditions are also being witnessed over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, among other stations.

There is a low pressure area seen over South Pakistan and adjoining Southwest Rajasthan. Along with that, we can see an upper air cyclonic circulation at mid tropospheric levels. Moreover, a Western Disturbance is moving along the western Himalayas.

Thus, multiple weather systems are influencing weather conditions at the moment. This could enhance the ongoing spell of rainfall over Uttarakhand.

The Western Disturbance is also likely to bring light to moderate rains over the states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR and West Uttar Pradesh. Rainfall will continue at least for next 24 hours over North India.

Moderate to heavy showers are expected over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. We cannot rule out the possibility of flash floods, cloud bursts and landslides over the region.

On August 6, the state of Uttarakhand recorded 28.8 mm of rainfall against the normal of 14.3 mm for the day. So far, August 6, Uttarakhand has received 10% more rains than the normal for the season. This has made Uttarakhand one of the best performing regions, in terms of Monsoon rains, so far this year.
