Monsoon declines, temperatures shoot up in most parts of India

September 12, 2013 2:49 PM |

“Temperatures have risen sharply in the last 48hours in almost entire country, barring parts of south India, where rain is keeping the weather largely comfortable. We have already informed about the decline of monsoon, which began from Rajasthan. As monsoon exits other parts of the country, afternoons will become very hot and the difference between the maximum and minimum temperature (diurnal range) will increase majorly, says, Mahesh Palawat, Head of the Meteorological team at Skymet Weather.

As predicted, temperatures are currently 3 to 4 degrees above normal in north, central, east and northeast India. There will be no relief from the heat as temperatures may continue to maintain higher than normal for days to come. Scattered or patchy rain in isolated pockets will fail to provide any comfort.

Here’s what the maximum temperatures in major cities of the country are looking like:

North and northwest India - Mercury levels in the capital city touched 36.6⁰C yesterday. Hissar was soaring at 38⁰C, whereas Churu in west Rajasthan was the hottest at 40.2⁰C. Temperatures are expected to hover around the same level tomorrow, while Delhi may touch 37⁰C, isolated rain may drop the temperature only temporarily.

East and Northeast India - Yesterday, Patna and Allahabad recorded 36⁰C and 35⁰C respectively. Kolkata touched 33⁰C, due to nil rain. Guwahati was hot at 35⁰C. Tomorrow too, mercury levels will maintain around the same level in all these cities.

Central India – Entire central India, except parts of Marathawada and madhya Maharashtra, is experiencing summer like condition. Maximum temperatures are above normal by 5 to 6 degrees in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Gujarat. Bhopal and Gwalior recorded 35⁰C and 36.5⁰C on Wednesday. Temperature rose in Ahmedabad to 37.1⁰C, the highest in the season so far.

South India is currently the only region in the country to be experiencing comfortable and cool days. Bangalore is experiencing chilly days with maximum and minimum temperatures, settling at 25 and 19 degrees respectively. In rainshadow region, Chennai, temperature was 7degrees below normal at 26.8⁰C . Ongoing rains are expected to keep the temperatures below normal in most parts of south India.
