Southwest Monsoon has finally gripped the entire state of Maharashtra on the past day. However, as predicted by Skymet Weather, the rains over the state reduced considerably. But still, the intensity of Monsoon showers remained sharp over the Konkan division along with some parts of Vidarbha.

These two regions recorded moderate with one or two heavy spells. On the other hand, South Madhya Maharashtra recorded scattered showers meanwhile, the intensity of rains remained light over Marathwada. On the contrary, North Madhya Maharashtra remained almost dry.

Despite the reduction of rains, all the meteorological divisions of the state are enjoying a rain surplus status. In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Nagpur recorded 41 mm of rains, Ratnagiri 35 mm, Bramhapuri 35 mm, Wardha 32 mm, Mahabaleshwar 28 mm, Chandrapur 27 mm, Yeotmal 25 mm, Alibag 12 mm, Harnai 12 mm, Vengurla 12 mm, Dahanu 11 mm and Mumbai recorded 2 mm of light rains.

The reason for these rains can be associated with an offshore trough is persisting from South Gujarat to Kerala coast. In the wake of this, we expect light to moderate rains to continue over Konkan and parts of Vidarbha during the next 24 hours.

Thereafter, the rain intensity would decrease over Vidarbha and would reduce significantly over Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada. After subsequent 48 hours, we expect most parts of Maharashtra to become dry, however, isolated rains may still continue.

Thus, the cities like Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Vengurla, Chandrapur, Gondia, Bramhapuri, Nagpur and Wardha may witness light to moderate showers. Meanwhile, Washim, Nagpur, Akola, Pune, Nanded, and Nashik may receive light rains.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

For Konkan, farmers are advised to complete intercultural operation like weeding for 15 days old sowing, Farmers should also complete the spraying of pesticides to avoid the impact of cloudy weather. It is also advisable that farmers should drain out excess water from orchards and vegetable fields.

For Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, farmers are advised to continue sowing of Kharif crops such as Soybean, Black Gram, Pearl Millet, Cotton, Pigeon Pea, Maize, Groundnut etc. Also, complete the preparation of nursery for vegetable crops.
