After reaching Kerala yesterday, the much awaited Southwest Monsoon has now reached Northeast India along with parts of Sikkim and the sub-Himalayan West Bengal

Coastal areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka will now receive more rainfall. However, the intensity of rainfall over Kerala, Tamil Nadu and South interior Karnataka will now decrease. Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra will receive scattered rain.

Update on June 5, 2015 - Monsoon knocks Kerala's door
The much awaited Southwest Monsoon finally arrives in Kerala, giving relief from the intense heat felt in last few days. The rainfall has been heavy in last two days in Kerala and winds pattern turned favourable for the arrival of Monsoon.

Update on June 4, 2015 - Monsoon at Kerala's doorsteps
The intense pre-Monsoon rain has oppressed hot, humid days, brought temperatures down and have begun to indicate the favourable onset of normal Southwest Monsoon in Kerala in next 48 hours.

While we can expect Monsoon anytime between next two days, rainfall and cloud formation in Kerala and adjoining parts of Lakshadweep indicate the favourable advancement of Southwest Monsoon. The Monsoon that is the lifeline of the rainfed agrarian economy is just at the doorstep of India and looks eager to drench Kerala with much-needed rain soon.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, places that are key to assess the advancement and progress of Monsoon have received light to moderate rainfall in last 24 hours.
For instance, Punalur received 59 mm of rain in last 24 hours and Thiruvananthapuram received 30 mm of rain in the same span. Other places to have received the rain in last 24 hours include the following:
Widespread rain also brought down the minimum temperature in parts of Kerala. For instance, the temperature dropped by 2 degrees in Thiruvananthapuram as it settled at 23.8°C on 4th June in comparison to 25.7°C a day before. Temperature also dropped in Alappuzha where it settled at 25.2°C on 4th June and it was 26.4°C on 3rd June.
Look Ahead to Monsoon
While the rainfall remained minimal in last couple of days over Kerala, it picked up in last 24 hours. The rainfall activity is likely to get intense in next two days and more showers are expected over the state and adjoining parts. As we move ahead, more parts of Kerala are likely to be bathed by good pre-Monsoon rain, ushering in the eagerly awaited Monsoon in India.
