Monsoon arrives over Mumbai with a bang

Mumbai and suburbs have been experiencing dry and hot weather conditions since the past many days. Pre monsoon weather activities were almost nil. Isolated to scattered rain and thundershowers occurred over Mumbai region from June 8.

A Cyclonic Circulation is persisting over South Konkan and Goa and adjoining area, extending up to 5.8 Km above mean sea level. A trough is also extending along Konkan and Goa along with Karnataka coast. These weather parameters have enhanced rain activities over Konkan and Goa including Mumbai as well as over many parts of Karnataka coast.

During the last 24 hours, Santacruz recorded 41 mm and Colaba 62 mm rain. Water logging and flash floods reported at Bhandup Sonapur Junction, traffic jam was reported over LBS Road. Intense rain activities commenced by night of June 10 and continued until morning of June 11.

With this Southwest Monsoon has advanced into parts of Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra including Mumbai and a few more areas of Karnataka today.

We expect light to moderate rain with one or two intense spells to occur over Mumbai and suburbs for another 24 hours. Rain activities will be during late evening and night hours as well as during early morning hours. Rain intensity may subside to some extent of between June 13 and 17. Thereafter intensity of rain will pick up and there may be few heavy spells June 18 onwards.
