Monsoon advances along the West Coast after 9 days

Rain in West CoastMonsoon has further advanced in the western side of the country. From June 10 to 18 the western arm of the Monsoon line remained stagnant. It did not move beyond Karwar in Karnataka since June 10.

The western arm of Monsoon is likely to gain more strength. The Southwest Monsoon has already covered Central Konkan and is likely to advance further. As of today, June 19, the Monsoon line advanced further into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, entire Goa, some parts of south Konkan. It has also covered some parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, East Madhya Pradesh and Southeast Uttar Pradesh.

The trough extending from Karnataka to Kerala will extend northwards, bringing widespread moderate rains along the West Coast. Heavy to very heavy rain will continue along the West Coast during next couple of days.

Mumbai could receive light to moderate rainfall during next 48 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of rain will decrease significantly.

A fresh Monsoon surge may affect North Konkan around June 25.

As of now, moderate to heavy showers are going on along the West Coast. During last 24 hours, Mangalore received 73.5 mm of rainfall. Here’s a look at the rainfall figures in other parts of the West Coast:
