Monsoon 2021: Rainy week for Hyderabad, intense rains likely over the weekend

July 6, 2021 4:51 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Hyderabad is likely to have moderate to heavy monsoon showers over the next 7 days, between 07th and 14th July. Rains could be more intense and widespread with isolated pockets having very heavy downpours on 11th, 13th, and 14th July. These rains may be vigorous enough to complete the monthly normal quota. This will also break the jinx of making a poor start in the 1st week of July.

July and August are the rainiest months for Hyderabad with normal rainfall of 179.2mm and 207mm respectively. The state of Telangana has received a surplus of 45% rainfall so far in this season and the week ending 30th June recorded an excess of 33%. Hyderabad has also received 17% above normal rainfall so far. A relatively poor start in July is likely to be compensated in the wet spell between 07th and 14th July. Heavy rains are expected in some parts in the next 24 hours and followed up with a peak spell between 11th and 14th July.

Southwest monsoon activity will pick up on account of the formation of cyclonic circulation and low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Firstly a cyclonic circulation is coming up over the North Bay of Bengal on 07th July with a trough extending across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. This will be followed up with a fresh low-pressure area forming over Northwest Bay of Bengal, off South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coast. Monsoon surge will pick up over South Peninsula because of these two weather systems and trigger active monsoon conditions over most parts except the Tamil Nadu region.

Pleasant weather conditions are expected over and around Hyderabad for one week and may even extend further. Cloudy skies with a gentle breeze and intermittent showers with short breaks will be typical of a monsoon fest. The day temperature is likely to dip to 30-31°C and the minimum will slip to the low 20’s. Most of the weather activity will occur during the late afternoon, evening, and night hours. Caution to be observed for lightning and thunderstorm with squally weather and restrict movements out in the open.
