Monsoon 2021: Rainy week ahead for Maharashtra including Mumbai

All the meteorological divisions of Maharashtra are either rain surplus or normal. Konkan and Goa region is surplus by 17%, Marathwada by 39%, Vidarbha 3%, and Madhya Maharashtra is at par. Maharashtra has received 11% surplus rainfall between June 1st and July 12.

During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rains occurred over Konkan and Goa including Mumbai. Marathwada and Vidarbha also recorded light to moderate rain with few heavy spells. A low-pressure area is now over the North East Arabian sea. The axis of monsoon trough is passing through this low-pressure area to West Central Bay of Bengal across North Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha.

Monsoon surge is active over the West Coast of the country, particularly over Konkan and Goa. Therefore, moderate to heavy rain with few very heavy spells are expected to continue over Konkan and Goa region during the next 4-5 days. Mumbai and suburbs may also receive moderate to heavy rain during the next 48 hours. The intensity of rain will be significantly high over Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra as well as the coastal districts of Maharashtra.

Monsoon will remain active over the interior Maharashtra where it will be vigorous over coastal districts. By the end of this week, most of the reservoirs will get enough water, and rain surplus of the state of Maharasshtra will also increase.
